What is a daily progress report?
A daily progress report (DPR) - also called a site diary or daily site report - is the record of what happened on a construction site each day: who worked, what got done, what held work up and what's planned next.
It's how a project manager or owner who isn't on site knows how the day went. And over months it becomes the project's history - the record you go back to when a client questions a delay, a contractor disputes a bill, or you need to back up a time-extension claim.
DPR format for construction: what to include
A good daily progress report answers the same questions every day, in the same order. This is the format Raidzo uses - you can also use it on paper or in a spreadsheet.
| Section | What to record | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Date and weather | The report date and the weather on site | 7 Oct 2026 · Sunny, 32°C |
| Summary of the day | Two or three lines on how the day went | Slab shuttering on 3rd floor completed; rebar started |
| Manpower | Each agency or contractor, their trade and head count | Sharma Constructions · Masons · 12 |
| Work done | What got done, where, and how much if measured | Brickwork, 2nd floor east wing - 18 m² |
| Hindrances / delays | Anything that held work up, its cause and hours lost | Cement delivery late - 3 hours lost |
| Safety | Incidents, near misses, toolbox talks | Toolbox talk on working at height |
| Plan for tomorrow | What the site will work on next | Rebar 3rd floor slab; plastering 1st floor |
| Site photos | Photos of the day's work | Slab shuttering, brickwork progress |
The section people skip - and later regret - is hindrances. Writing down each delay the day it happens, with its cause and the hours lost, is what turns "the site was slow" into evidence.
Why move your DPR off paper, Excel and WhatsApp messages
Same format, every day
Every report has the same sections, so nothing is forgotten and reports are easy to compare.
A reminder before they leave site
If today's report isn't in by your chosen time, the people who file it get a reminder. You can skip Sundays.
You hear the moment it's in
The owner and project managers get a one-line summary when a report is submitted - workers on site, items done, hindrances and hours lost.
PDF and WhatsApp in one tap
Share a submitted report as a PDF with photos, or send it straight to WhatsApp for the client or head office.
A hindrance register built for you
Every delay from every report, collected in one place by cause and hours lost - ready when you need to back up a claim.
See which days are missing
The reports list shows each day as Submitted, Draft or Missing, and the dashboard shows every project's reporting at a glance.
